Abstract
In the past few years, many organizations invested in Business Process Management Systems (BPMSs) and Business Process Management initiatives in order to monitor and improve their processes. However, most of the existing systems and methodologies do not provide practical solutions to help users with the improvement step and with the evaluation of the expected results when applying changes to processes. In this paper, we move toward addressing this issue by proposing an aspect-oriented framework based on a set of process redesign patterns. This framework allows the best applicable redesign patterns among several possibilities to be selected according to their impact not only on the process models but also on other important views of the business process context including its goals, performances, and validation. This approach helps users make informed decisions and keep all of these views aligned and consistent. A health care case study presented as a proof of concept supports the feasibility of this novel approach.
